OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) – You might have attended a bachelorette party or 50th birthday party where someone gets a gag gift of ‘improver’ pills and guess the worst case do nothing.

For years, a local man filled the shelves of adult stores with so-called herbal supplements that actually had the punch of prescription drugs like Viagra.

Rick Shepard, 60, pleaded guilty and was given five years of probation. It looks like it was a profitable business, as a forfeiture order was issued for over $ 1.6 million from the scheme, which operated from 2013 to 2018.

Court documents indicate that Shepard has his production line, so to speak, in the basement of his home in Overland Park. It was there that he split prescription erectile dysfunction drugs into three and 12 pack vials or blister packs and added his herbal remedy label.

He called his company “Epic Products” and called the supplements “Euphoric”. Court documents say he ordered wholesale shipments from China.

Drugs? Tadalafil and Sildenafil, known by the brand names Cialis and Viagra. He packaged them as “all-natural herbal supplements for male enhancement” and sold them to adult novelty stores in Kansas, Missouri, and Colorado.

This is no laughing matter as these are prescription drugs that can have dangerous interactions with other drugs, which is why you would see a doctor if you knew what they are.

Fortunately, the US attorney’s office says they don’t know of anyone having an adverse reaction. They say the judge took into account Shepard’s possible confession and lack of a criminal record when deciding not to give him a prison sentence.
